Der Cydia Jailbreak Tweak und App Store von Jay Freeman aka saurik dürfte Jailbreak Freunden durchaus ein Begriff sein, auch wenn Cydia bereits Ende 2018 eingestellt wurde. Steve Troughton-Smith portierte jetzt „aus Spaß“ den Cydia Jailbreak Store auf macOS mit Marzipan. Das „Projekt Marzipan“ ermöglicht die relativ einfache Portierung von iPhone und iPad iOS Apps auf den Desktop Mac unter macOS.
Zur Klarstellung: Cydia auf dem Mac ist eigentlich relativ sinnfrei, da unter macOS (zur Zeit noch) beliebige Modifizierungen, Apps und Tweaks vom User installiert werden können. Einen Jailbreak App Store, wie Cydia für das iPhone und iPad darstellte, nützt dem Mac Nutzer also recht wenig. Letztendlich ist Cydia auf MacOS mit Marzipan also lediglich eine Demonstration, wie klassische iOS Apps auf den Mac portiert werden können und dort „nativ“ laufen. Wie im obigen Tweet zu lesen: Tweaks aus dem Cydia App Store können natürlich nicht auf dem Mac installiert werden – die APT-Paket Komponente wurde von Troughton-Smith komplett entfernt.
